Shortcut Key to Adjust Brightness on Mac: A Guide

If you're a MacBook Pro user, you might be familiar with the shortcut key to adjust brightness. In macOS 10.12.4, adjusting brightness using the keyboard shortcut is nearly instant and seamless. However, in previous versions of macOS, employing this shortcut would result in a delay between key presses and the resulting brightness adjustments on an external display.

Fortunately, Apple has implemented a fix for delayed brightness adjustments in the latest macOS 10.12.4 beta. To take advantage of this feature, follow these steps:

Step 1: Tap the chevron button on the Touch Bar to open the extended Control Strip and reveal the two brightness buttons.

Step 2: Hold the Control key (⌃) on your MacBook Pro's keyboard and tap the brightness up or down button. You'll notice that the brightness changes on your external display, in this case, an LG UltraFine Display.

Note that you can't use the brightness slider while holding Control to adjust the external display just yet. When you hold the Control key, the brightness change will occur on your MacBook Pro's internal display instead of the external display.
